INT 270 Ruth Hernandez Blog 5 Sherwin-Williams Presentation The learning for this week was about understanding paint in terms of more than just color. According to Paint, Specs & Color Resources by Sherwin-Williams, paint has three major purposes: protecting a substrate, enhancing aesthetics, and delivering advanced performance technology. Paint protects against the elements, corrosion, dirt, and moisture, while also using color and gloss to enhance design. One of the concepts that were important to understand is that all paints are not the same. Paint is composed of four major parts: pigments, binders, liquids/solvents, and additives. Pigments are what give paint color and hide, binders are what give paint adhesion and durability, solvents are what help to apply the paint, and additives are what improve performance properties such as washability and mildew resistance.
